The Organisation for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation (OfERR) is helping Sri Lankan refugees living in India through healthcare, livelihood, and empowerment programs for Sri Lankan refugees.
As an Act for Peace Partner, you’ll be backing one of our local partners on the ground each month. Each local organisation we work alongside is committed to supporting people uprooted by conflict and disaster find a safe place to belong, no matter how long it takes.
The sheer scale of the displacement crisis can be overwhelming for our local partners, who in many cases have been supporting refugees and displaced people for decades.
But time and again, Act for Peace’s local partners share what makes the biggest difference in addressing this humanitarian crisis: partnership.
Most of all, partnership is a promise.
A promise to be there for each other. And with that promise comes courage. The courage to face a challenge together, knowing that the other person will be there by your side, every step of the way, until that challenge is overcome.
“Giving monthly does make me feel that I am contributing in a sustainable way and it makes me feel good to know I am part of the solution to creating change. Plus It makes me happy to know I can support others from afar!”
– Alex, Act for Peace Partner
“For me [being an Act for Peace Partner], lifts me above the frustrations I might have with local life, and helps me to recognise that there’s something I can do in the international communities… this is the kind of human I want to be.”
– Chris, Act for Peace Partner
As an Act for Peace Partner, you’ll provide practical, spiritual and emotional support to help local partners and the communities they serve to find the courage to keep going through the tough times ahead.
You will also receive:
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring people can live in safety, with dignity, while displaced. This means they can access critical physical and emotional support (food, water, medicine, psychological support); lead activities and advocate for change; and ultimately have control over their lives, ensuring their safety, dignity and rights.
Your regular gifts will help uprooted people find a permanent place to belong; supporting them to lead initiatives that help build a safe, permanent future, and holding countries to account so they share responsibility for supporting survivors of displacement.
Together, we will be taking action so fewer people are forced to flee their homes; through community-led initiatives such as drought resistant farming and cyclone preparedness training, to reduce the impact of disasters and other displacement drivers. And we’re encouraging governments and the public to take action to reduce conflict and climate-driven displacement.
Chalani, who was only eight years old when her family fled the conflict in Sri Lanka and spent the next 29 years of her life in a refugee camp in India. All through that time, our local partner, the Organisation for Eelam Refugees (OfERR), along with Act for Peace Partners, were there for Chalani and her family. Partners’ gifts helped bring them food, healthcare and other vital support.
Then two years ago, conditions were eventually right for OfERR to help Chalani realise her dream of returning to Sri Lanka. After nearly three decades in exile, she is now home, and finally able to build a future for herself and her family. This is what becoming an Act for Peace Partner is all about. Being there for people just like Chalani – no matter how long it takes – until they have a safe place to belong.
