Acting for peace in the world
We are the international humanitarian agency of the National Council of Churches Australia. From humble beginnings over 75 years ago with the Christmas Bowl, we now work with local organisations in 16 countries.
Together we help people displaced by conflict and disaster keep the peace of a safe place to belong.
We specialise in addressing displacement by supporting local organisations to build positive change – driven by the community and for the community.
Change strategy 1
Backing displaced people
We amplify the voices of people who are displaced, as they know their community’s needs and challenges best. Like Saw Meh* (pictured), who became a refugee camp leader on the Thai Burma border.
Change strategy 2
Building unity
Creating lasting positive change happens with people, not to people. We work side-by-side with people who are displaced around the world, like Tsehay* (pictured) in Ethiopia, to shape solutions together – empowering people to rebuild their lives.
Change strategy 3
Transforming the system
Together we are stronger. We amplify the voices of people whose lives have been uprooted by conflict and disaster, like these girls in Pakistan (pictured), to confront human injustices and advocate for systemic change.
