A pathway out of poverty
Ethiopia
Tesfa (Hope) Program
Ethiopian Orthodox Church – Development and Inter Church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC)
Poverty is widespread in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with families struggling to earn sustainable incomes amid widespread displacement. But the Tesfa program is providing hope for a better future – empowering families to transform their lives for the long term – providing a sustainable pathway out of poverty.
pathway out of poverty
In the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, millions of refugees and local Ethiopians are experiencing high levels of poverty and have limited access to sustainable incomes. Conflict and violence displaced 5.1 million people in the country in 2021.
The conflict in the northern region of Tigray deepened, spreading to neighbouring regions and uprooting millions of people from their homes. Without access to sustainable incomes, many families face significant risks including gender-based violence, early marriage, child labour, and hunger.
The Tesfa program provides refugees and host community families in Addis Ababa with a long-term, sustainable pathway out of poverty.
Over two years, participants receive training, support and mentoring to start businesses or access employment so they have a sustainable income. Together, we work with local partner organisation EOC-DICAC to empower families to rebuild their lives.
Act for Peace is committed to backing local organisations and working alongside communities to shape long term displacement solutions together.
