Here in Australia, we’ve seen food prices skyrocket due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic, climate disasters, and most recently, the conflict in Ukraine. In communities and countries where people were already facing life-threatening hunger, the global food crisis has pushed them to the breaking point.

As a church, we can play a critical role in helping people through this crisis. That’s why together with Michal Australia and other leading Australian international development agencies, we are launching Help Fight Famine: a unified call from the Australian Church, community, and humanitarian organisations for urgent action from the Australian Government to do our part in responding.

We can save lives if we act now.

We are inviting your congregation to join with others across Australia, and to call on our government to:

1. Save lives now through an urgent Famine Prevention Package of $150 million to avert catastrophe in the worst affected hunger hotspots in the Horn of Africa, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen
2. Tackle the root causes of the global hunger crisis through investing long term in a targeted Global Food Security Strategy
3. Strengthen resilience of the Asia Pacific region to climate change, disasters, and economic shocks by increasing Australia’s development assistance.
