Walking the Talk
Global
For the community, by the community
Global partners
Act for Peace is committed to backing local organisations and working alongside communities to shape displacement solutions together and this is achieved through the Walking the Talk program.
Walking the Talk is focused on being partner-led, reducing harmful power dynamics, supporting partners to implement sustainable programs, amplifying the voices of people experiencing displacement, and conducting refugee-led research.
Our locally led, partnership approach in action
Walking the Talk is an integral program for Act for Peace that epitomises our locally led partnership approach. Walking the Talk invests in 18 organisations around the world, to strengthen both our partners and the displaced people they work alongside.
Through locally led research, evidence-based innovation and learning, and a focus on a sustainable, partner-led approach, Walking the Talk strengthens programs to amplify the voices of people experiencing displacement. This program focuses on:
Innovation and learning
Strengthening programs through evidence-based innovation and learning. Act for Peace supports partners to trial modalities and share learning about innovative ways of working including the Graduation out of Poverty Approach, Community Based Protection (CBP) and Anticipatory Action (AA). This includes:
- Facilitating mutual learning sessions for both Act for Peace staff and our partners in transformative safeguarding, disability inclusions and accountability for affected populations.
- Facilitating cross learning between two partners in Ethiopia and Jordan in the Graduation out of Poverty Approach.
- Enabling our partner in Bangladesh to tell their story of success in a pilot project helping communities anticipate emergencies at the Regional Humanitarian Partnership Week (RHPW) in 2024.
Agility and resilience in crisis
The development of our Climate Displacement Strategy supports partners to address climate displacement risks and prioritise community led solutions. By leveraging existing humanitarian leadership, we enable partners to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience.
Resourcing locally led initiatives
Act for Peace supports partners to seek new and diversified funding opportunities and enables them to take the lead in grant proposals, so organisations have a sustainable future.
Meaningful Participation and Leadership
Act for Peace co-produces research locally led research with refugee led networks on meaningful participation and leadership (MPL) and shares the learnings of the research to have a broader impact.
