Strengthening Pacific churches to improve development outcomes
National Council of Churches Australia (NCCA)
The Pacific Church Partnership Advisory Network (PCPAN) brings the Australian government, churches and church-based aid and development agencies together to improve development in the Pacific region.
Act for Peace brings technical expertise in displacement, protection and disaster preparedness. We work in partnership with National Councils of Churches in Australia globally to strengthen the network and improve development outcomes in the Pacific.
Equipping church and community leaders to respond to humanitarian needs
The Pacific Church Partnership Advisory Network (PCPAN) recognises churches and church-based agencies as important contributors to development in the Pacific and a significant source of social and cultural connection between Australia and the Pacific.
PCPAN was established as a capacity-building, coordination, advisory and partnership-building forum for the Australian Government, Pacific and Australian churches and church-based aid and development agencies working in the Pacific region.
The Network engages Pacific and Australian churches and church leaders and Government representatives on a variety of development and humanitarian needs including leadership, service delivery, gender equality, education, seasonal workers’ welfare, climate justice and disaster response.
“Justice is what love looks like in the public space.” PCPAN Charter
PCPAN consists of 12 Pacific Seats including gender, disability and youth representation. 10 Australian Seats represent the peak ecumenical church bodies, church-based aid and development consortiums, First Nation Australians, the Pacific Diaspora and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
PCPAN enforces Act for Peace’s commitment to backing local organisations and working alongside communities to shape displacement solutions together.
Tackling real issues
“After attending her first PCPAN meeting in Sydney (October 2024), New Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) CEO, Ms Sainimili Tawake left “feeling surprised, impressed, and encouraged that Churches are talking about real issues in the region and in communities from a development perspective.”

“There is rich knowledge and wisdom (kwai) about Pasifika ways of responding to the challenges of our time, such as the impacts of climate change, the ecological crisis and building strong ecological, stewardship, addressing violence against women and girls in our communities. We need to draw on this wisdom and knowledge.”
