How to help – for Churches

Acting for peace together

Church communities play a vital role in creating, together, a world where everyone belongs.

Your faith in action demonstrates the transformation that is possible when the church unites to extend a hand of generosity.

For 75 years, Act for Peace – the international humanitarian agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia – has brought together thousands of churches across Australia. Acting for peace together to give hope to families who are displaced by conflict and disaster around the world. We stand united in our shared beliefs:

  • Working together
  • Peace with justice
  • The interdependence of people and planet

How you can help

Ration Challenge for Youth Groups

Empower your youth group to take practical action and share Christ’s love with people who are displaced around the world.

The Ration Challenge is an immersive experience that builds empathy, awareness, and a passion for change, while helping those in urgent need.

For three days, your youth group will eat the same rations as Syrian and Palestinian refugees living in urban refugee camps in Jordan and get sponsored to do so.

This challenge is about more than just the experience of eating simple rations – it’s about deepening your youth group’s commitment to serving others – helping displaced people regain the peace of a safe place to belong.

aid crisis appeal

Governments around the world slashing humanitarian aid funding, and it comes with a human cost.

No human should have to pay for budget cuts with their safety, their dignity, or their life.

Together we can put the human back into humanitarian aid, for humanKind.

Please pray for the future of humanitarian programs and sign the church petition.

Christmas Bowl

For over 75 years, church communities like yours, have been giving hope to families who are displaced through the Christmas Bowl appeal.

In 1949, Rev. Frank Byatt first laid a bowl of remembrance on the Christmas dinner table asking his family to ‘share your good dinner with hungry children in other lands’. From this simple act of compassion, the annual Christmas Bowl appeal was born – a much-loved tradition in churches across Australia.

Funds raised through the Christmas Bowl continue to support people who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict and disasters. Those funds are invested in life changing humanitarian programs around the globe that empower people to find safety in exile and rebuild their lives.

From your church community to theirs, your Christmas Bowl gifts help bring the peace of a safe place to belong, to those who need it most.
