Acting for peace together

A promise to stand alongside displaced people and create a world where everyone has a safe place to belong.

acting for peace for all

In a world that is constantly changing, Peacemakers act as a beacon of hope, making a life-changing difference to people displaced by conflict and disaster. As a Peacemaker, you’ll be part of a global movement of compassion, solidarity and peace.

Through regular gifts, Peacemakers fund life-changing programs that empower people who are displaced by conflict and disaster to regain the peace of a safe place to belong.

Together we back local organisations to create lasting change by empowering people who are displaced to rebuild their lives. Our local partners work side by side with people who are displaced to help build positive change with them, not to them – driven by the community, for the community.

Become a Peacemaker today to further lasting positive change for people forced to flee their homes due to conflict and disaster. Because everyone deserves a safe place to belong.

I want to work hard and change.

I want to change the situation I am in and also help to change other women’s lives”

Tsehay*, Ethiopia

Most of all, partnership is a promise.

A promise to be there for each other. And with that promise comes courage. The courage to face a challenge together, knowing that the other person will be there by your side, every step of the way, until that challenge is overcome.

Your role as a peacemaker

When you become a peacemaker, you are helping us ensure people can live in safety, with dignity, while they are displaced. This includes providing access to critical support like food, water, shelter and psychosocial care. Your support also helps us advocate for changes and fix the systems that cause violence, exclusion or abuse.

Peacemakers are instrumental in helping uprooted people have a safe place to belong. Your support helps empower people who are displaced to rebuild their lives.

As a peacemaker, you support community led initiatives that reduce the impact of disasters. With your support we can amplify the voices of people who are displaced by advocating for governments to take action to reduce conflict and climate driven displacement.

Chalani, a returned refugee now lives back home in Sri Lanka thanks to the support of Act for Peace Peacemakers. Richard Wainwright / Act for Peace

Chalani* spent 29 years of her life in a refugee camp

Chalani was only eight years old when her family fled the conflict in Sri Lanka and spent the next 29 years of her life in a refugee camp in India. All through that time, our local partner, the Organisation for Eelam Refugees (OfERR), along with the support of Peacemakers, were there for Chalani and her family. The kindness of people like you helped bring them food, healthcare and other vital support.

In 2019, conditions were eventually right for OfERR to help Chalani realise her dream of returning to Sri Lanka. After nearly three decades in exile, she is now home, and finally able to build a future for herself and her family. This is what becoming a Peacemaker is all about. Being there for people just like Chalani and her family – no matter how long it takes – until they have a safe place to belong.

*Chalani’s name has been changed for safety reasons
